03010	I was very glad to hear of your interest in Henry Cowell's "Rhythmicana."
03020	I have enclosed a copy of an article I did on this piece a few years ago.
03030	I think you will find it amusing.  To my knowledge the only Rhythmicon is
03040	residing in the Smithsonian Institution, although there was a rumor of
03050	one being in the Soviet Union, where Leon Theremin spent his last years.
03060	Perhaps the Smithsonian could at least provide you with some pictures
03070	of the instrument.  Supposedly they want to have all the items in their
03080	instrument collection to be in working order but the last I heard was that
03090	they had never gotten around to working on the Rhythmicon.

03110	The performance materials for "Rhythmicana" should be available through
03120	Schirmer's.  Some years ago the Buffalo Philharmonic performed this work
03130	using my tape of the Rhythmicon part.  I believe the conductor was Michael Tilson Thomas.
03140	Aspen would be an ideal place to perform this piece.  The work is a prime
03150	example of the best aspects of Henry Cowell's progressive nature.
